Who's Doing What at the California State Fair

So who else is working the California State Fair and lives, and volunteers alot of his time in Citrus Heights? OK it is Micheal Lagomarsino from Neighborhood #3 . Michael is a busy guy, volunteers within his own neigborhood, plus volunteers at the Citrus Heights Police Department too......  ok ok back to the California State Fair..............  Michael Lagomarsino with Chuck Benward (NA#6)

So now you see that he also volunteers for Aerospace Museum. Looks like a fun place to me.

Always talking engines.............

And there you have my pictures from the California State Fair 2012. I hope that you enjoyed the 3 part series.

Who's Doing What at the California State Fair

contuned from yesterday........

I was at the California State Fair 2012, and as hot as it was, I was there for two days. Yes, two days of scheduled time. OK OK the building is air conditioned but outside HOT!!
I was demonstrating at the California State Fair in Building #8  (probably my 9th or 10th year and really loving it....... demonstrating what you ask
                                      "Knitting and Crocheting"
...... and believe me it is not your Grandmothers Knitting anymore. Knitting & Crocheting are not a lost arts, there are thousands and thousands and thousands of women and men around the world keeping this art alive. And the local knitting guild, Camellia City Stockin'ettes Knit Guild #105 and the Sacramento Crochet Guild partnered and shared the demonstration floor, teaching knitting and crocheting for two days.....  August 28 & 29. Camellia City Stockin'ettes Knit Guild Blog

these are flowers that were knitted and crocheted and were there as take aways for those attempting to knit or crochet........  not many left after two days. That is a good sign of interest.

All the garments you see are hand knitted and some crocheted by members of the guilds.

continuing one more time.........  who else did I run into that lives, and volunteers in Citrus Heights that you would know? Who could it be?

Saturday, August 18, 2012

Do you get over to the California State Fair this year? There certainly was lots to see and do, with new foods and new gadgets to try and buy. I wanted to write about people that you and I know that worked the fair. I ran into one other person from Citrus Heights besides myself that was working the fair........... first let me show you a couple of pictures that caught my eye for one reason or another...

LOOK LOOK a real live bald eagle.............

OMG!!!  Squeeze Inn at the State Fair.........  first time!!

Sorry I could not get a clear picture through all the lights but here you are  YUMMY!!!!

                                                      "Chocolate Covered Bacon"

Something new.... I found these in the County display buildings at the Marin, San Francisco, & Alameda  County display and they have gone paperless - nothing to take away with you, no paper or advertising to stuff into that bag and hope that you actually read it later or sometime in the future......they are doing all their advertising through these QR Codes on Smartphones. Yes there is an APP for this. You can download FREE an app called QR Code. You open the app, put it in front of these codes and the app reads it and goes to their website for you to read all about whatever it is they want you to know and more.......... technology!!!

Now here is the Sacramento County display and multiple ribbons ........  HOORAY!!

Continued to another day.........................

So what is the garden all about............. come out and visit. There is a workday on the third Saturday of each month. Come out and get a tour of the place, see the vegetables actually growing, flowers blooming and owners participating to keep the garden growing and expanding.

Let's take a look at the garden.............
.........  the location of garden is at the corner of StockRanch Rd & San Juan, Citrus Heights
New parking lot..... blacktop handicap parking with additional parking on packed down gravel - look to the right of the picture you will see Merrill Gardens Senior Living Facility. They are a big supporter of the Garden, they allow the Garden members to use the facilities including the use of a room for their monthly board meeting.
                                                        Handicap signs proudly on display
Gates are locked but you can always find out information  (one way or another) Check out the weather proof information box which contains just that information about the garden and how to join plus registration form ...........
We are very proud that Dillion Flowers, Troop#144 with the Boy Scouts of America picked the garden to do his Eagle Scout Project. He supervised the design, raised the funds, purchased the matierals and supervised the completion of this great shed. The shed houses the beginnings of a garden library, tools and other materials. This has already been a valuable resource.
Looking out from the Shed and the shade trees to the summer beds........  yes, there are lots of just summer beds........  all types of vegies and flowers in the area also
As you can see the outside of the garden area is also being taken care of .......  the CCC comes about 4-6 weeks and helps with the larger projects......  weed eating around this outside area, helping to put down the pathways and more. Extremely valuable resource!!  Also notice the oak trees that are planted outside and the fruit trees planted inside the garden area.

You are looking at several very fruitful beds..........
AUTO TIRES!!! Yes, they are being recycled and used in the common area to grow large vine veggies and fruits (pumpkins, squash, watermelons and more........)

Think you are interested in joining and growing some of your own vegatables, fruits, flowers..... just need to contact us. In this area you can grow a garden year around.

Mark your calendar for October 6 5-7p Spaghetti Dinner.

AUGUST 20, 2012 - Auburn Blvd Project update

On the City of Citrus Heights website there is an update and more current information about this project. At the top of the page there is a dark box, don't miss the link to frequently asked questions. And of course this is where you would keep returning for more updates on the project as it progresses or to ask your own questions.

The entire Auburn Boulevard Complete Streets Revitalization Project includes undergrounding of utilities and roadway improvements from Sylvan Corners to the northern City limits. This is a total of 1.75 miles and will cost over $40 million. The project has been separated into phases and is being constructed as funds become available

So the first phase will be from Sylvan Corners to Rusch Park..............

I have noticed that they are currently working on repairs to the sidewalks and resurfacing Auburn Blvd from Grand Oaks to the Sacto/Placer County line. So expect some delays along this strip of Auburn now. But it sure will be nice to get some of the work done since this part of Auburn Blvd is not included in the first phase of work as mentioned above.

Capitals Tennis Matches at Sunrise Mall, Sunrise MarketPlace

Some of the Neighborhoods decided to take on a booth for two evenings at the Capitals Tennis Matches back again to Sunrise Mall/ Sunrise Market Place, Citrus Heights, California......
Chuck and Sandra Benward held down the booth on Tuesday July 24 5:30 - 8:30pm. It was a hot day but not so hot as it was over the weekend. No banner available, so we tried a make shift one which didn't last too long. We were prepared with many different types of flyers for residents and non-residents alike.

This was our view from the booth..... lots of food, music.with lots of tables & chairs with umbrella's.  which all filled up soon after I took the pictures. It was hot but there was a cooling breeze now and then, so we needed to have our special rocks on our flyers so they didn't blow all over the place. Mayor Jeff Slowey with wife was relaxing and attending the matches tonight. Jeannie Bruins waved as she went into the matches. Roberta McClatchen waved and then met her group for dinner before the matches started. Everything was very festive. We had SMUD next to us and they really drew the crowds with their give aways & prizes. They were giving away SMUD head bands telling people to wear them at half time for a special happening. Don't know what it was but sounded good.

Sunrise & Auburn Boulevard Project Updates

As you know the City had the "groundbreaking" for the Auburn Blvd Project but I have not seen anything happening yet......... and then while driving on Watson to Auburn Blvd there was sign about the project (just a little hidden and out of the way but there)

So I been away on vacation since August 4th,  so maybe resurfacing has begun.  Anyone know?

....and as you know from the previous post that the Sunrise Blvd Project is in full swing..........  just a couple of cautions........  please do not speed, the speed limit in the project area is 25 mph NOT 40mph.

Yes, this construction and roadwork may continue through next March. Be Patient!!

I guess we all need to have more patience, reduce our speeds in the construction areas & remember even with the construction we are still sharing the road with motorcycles and bicycles.

IT WILL ALL BE WORTH IT IN THE END (& I keep telling myself that over and over)
