Capitals Tennis Matches at Sunrise Mall, Sunrise MarketPlace

Some of the Neighborhoods decided to take on a booth for two evenings at the Capitals Tennis Matches back again to Sunrise Mall/ Sunrise Market Place, Citrus Heights, California......

Chuck and Sandra Benward held down the booth on Tuesday July 24 5:30 - 8:30pm. It was a hot day but not so hot as it was over the weekend. No banner available, so we tried a make shift one which didn't last too long. We were prepared with many different types of flyers for residents and non-residents alike.

 This was our view from the booth..... lots of food, music.with lots of tables & chairs with umbrella's.  which all filled up soon after I took the pictures. It was hot but there was a cooling breeze now and then, so we needed to have our special rocks on our flyers so they didn't blow all over the place. Mayor Jeff Slowey with wife was relaxing and attending the matches tonight. Jeannie Bruins waved as she went into the matches. Roberta McClatchen waved and then met her group for dinner before the matches started. Everything was very festive. We had SMUD next to us and they really drew the crowds with their give aways & prizes. They were giving away SMUD head bands telling people to wear them at half time for a special happening. Don't know what it was but sounded good.

Historic Sylvan Cemetery Constructing Commemorative Bell Tower - it will be recognizing its 150th anniversary this year by constructing a bell tower as a tribute to those buried on the site.  At this writing, 72% of the funds for the bell tower have already been reaise but nore donatins are needed to make the towe a reality. Sunrise & Auburn Boulevard Project Updates

As you know the City had the "groundbreaking" for the Auburn Blvd Project but I have not seen anything happening yet......... and then while driving on Watson to Auburn Blvd there was sign about the project (just a little hidden and out of the way but there)

      So I been away on vacation since August 4th,  so maybe resurfacing has begun.  Anyone know?

....and as you know from the previous post that the Sunrise Blvd Project is in full swing..........  just a couple of cautions........  please do not speed, the speed limit in the project area is 25 mph NOT 40mph.

              Yes, this construction and roadwork may continue through next March. Be Patient!!

 I guess we all need to have more patience, reduce our speeds in the construction areas & remember even with the construction we are still sharing the road with motorcycles and bicycles.

          IT WILL ALL BE WORTH IT IN THE END (& I keep telling myself that over and over)

Sunrise Blvd Project - Citrus Heights

We had the groundbreaking for the Auburn Blvd Project last week - no work has started yet.

BUT Sunrise Blvd Project has started with a bang.............. starting north of Antelope on the northwest side of Sunrise Blvd. and continuing down to almost Oak Ave. The orange cones are out and the slow down signs are in full force. Be aware, it is my understanding that even if workers have stopped working for the day or it is  the weekend those 25 mile an hour speed limit signs are still in effect. Alot of the driveways to the many businesses & strip malls along the way are blocked off but there is still one entrance available to any business.  Just be careful and cautious.

It will be inconvenient through March 2013 but I think that it will be well worth the inconvenience. Hang in there.......  slow down and be patient.

Auburn Blvd. Project Groundbreaking Event

Welcome to the gathering this morning for the official groundbreaking of the Auburn Blvd Project. I hope you enjoy this morning in pictures. These plans look great and it will be great to see all the improvements complete. I think it will make a big difference in the business community.

The event begins with introductions. A special thanks to the Bible Baptist Church (7635 Auburn Blvd) for allowing the groundbreaking on their property.

 "Groundbreaking" for the Auburn Blvd. Project. The project is officiallly underway. Be aware that the Sunrise Blvd. Project has also begun along with the Antelope Rd Project.. It will slow traffice through the city for a while but it will be worth it all at the end. Be patient. Be careful out there.

Citrus Heights - Coolest City in California!! Challenge

What is the challenge? The CoolCalifornia Challenge is a fun, innovative competition between ten California cities to reduce their community-wide carbon footprints and build more vibrant and sustainable communities.

The program is a year long challenge, which begins April 1, 2012 and concludes March 31, 2013. You will build on the months, points will increase. We need you to sign up NOW.

I have put the up-to-date rankings of where Citrus Heights is in this challenge of being the "Coolest City in California" .....  I have to say that a couple of days ago we were 5th now we have slipped to 6th.

I know the population of Citrus Heights is more than 121 family's. I do know that the population in 2011 was 83,700. Where are you all? Are we going to let Davis, Sacramento, Tracy, Pleasanton and Chula Vista beat us out.........  I hope not!!

I am sure that there are lots of other families that do as much if not more than we do ........  where are you? We need you to sign up and take on the challenge. Auburn Boulevard Project Groundbreaking Ceremony

Just a reminder about the groundbreaking ceremony in the morning...  Wednesday July 18th 8:30am

The Auburn Boulevard Project has been in the works since 2006 and has been dreamed of since the city incorporated in 1997. This project will revitalize a one-mile segment of historic Highway 40. Upon completion, the new Auburn Boulevard will feature undergrounded utilities, 230 new street trees, 9,600 lineal feet of sidewalks and bike lanes, 100 energy-efficient street lights, greatly improved road safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
